Annual Events
CROP Walk
A walk in support of ending world hunger approximately 3 miles in length. The event typically attracts Toledo area congregations, due to a short prayer and praise music segment, but everyone is welcome to participate. Walking groups usually solicit "sponsorships" from their friends and neighbors. All of the money raised stays in the Toledo area to support the Feed Your Neighbor program (see above). Watch the CROP Walk website for details of the upcoming October 2007 CROP Walk.

Alternative Spring
Break
Each year TCMF, UT's Office of Service Learning and Community Engagement, and many others sponsor a number of "Alternative" Spring Break trips, where students and adults from the community travel to various parts of the country to participate in community service projects. The largest Alternative Spring Break in recent memory occurred in 2006, when 6 separate trips provided Hurricane Relief along the Gulf Coast. 2006 was the first year in a Five-Year Commitment TCMF has with Cameron, LA and Bay St. Louis, MS.
2007 trips included the two hurricane relief trips, a Christian Appalachia Project in Berea, KY, a Native American Immersion outside Horton, KS, a Poverty Immersion near Louisville, KY, a Habitat for Humanity to Albany, GA, and a Personal Challenge in Ghost Ranch, NV.
For news and updates about Alternative Spring Break Trips, see our ASB page.

Internships and Volunteerships
Urban Spirit Poverty Immersion -
Summer
Lead and oversee the projects the groups that come to spend a week in poverty. Room and board are provided in a fully refurbished and restored house in the Portland neighborhood outside of Louisville, KY. Applicants are encouraged to seek stipends and grants from their universities, though stipends are avaliable directly from Urban Spirit. Course credit can also be obtained. The Poverty Immersion is an opportunity for middle- and upper- class individuals to experience the life of the urban poor, and is truly eye-opening for its participants. As an intern, you would help guide participants through the often frustrating and challenging process of shedding class privilege. As an intern, however, you will not be required to work long days, and have limited food and sleep like the participants.
Contact: Rev. Dr. Deb Conrad (email). For more information, check out the intern section of the Urban Spirit website.
